Ottawa - It took a little longer then expected but Scott Hannan has officially been traded as the defenseman is heading west to join the Calgary Flames, as Ottawa receives the package they were reportedly searching for when they first started to shop Hannan.
Heading back to Ottawa is defenseman Aaron Miller, former first round pick prospect Matt Pelech and Tampa's 2nd round pick in this years draft while heading back to Calgary with Hannan is LA's 6th round pick this year.
"We are very happy to be getting such a good pick back and a solid defensive prospect for Hannan, this is exactly the return we were looking for," said Ottawa's GM, "we expect Tampa's 2nd round pick to be a top 5 pick and while Matt (Pelech) maybe a while off he is a big kid (6'4 220lbs) and we expect him to develop into a good defensive defenseman that will help our team a few years down the line."
It is rumoured that this deal was in fact not the original trade that was expected to be announced and that Calgary wasn't even the team that Hannan was told he was being traded to but after the original offer was pulled from the table Ottawa and Calgary were able to quickly come to a trade.
"I'm not going to make any direct comments on rumours like that, all I know is we got a good return for a good defenseman and I was happy to get a deal done with GM Switzer, he has always been a pleasure to deal with, but there are definitely less trust worthy GM's we will be avoiding in future trades," added the Sens GM.
While Hannan might be the Sens last big name to be moved it is believed that Ottawa still has a few trades to be made as Shanahan is expected to be moved Wednesday night, and Jim Vandermeer and Martin Skoula could both be traded before the deadline.
