The Buffalo Sabres and Captain Sidney Crosby are excited to announce a 3 year extension worth $7,137,000 per season. It comes on a night where the Buffalo Sabres clinch their second playoff spot in as many years. The Sabres also reached 100 points as a team tonight after playing their 60th game. This team achievement plays a prominent theme in related events.
Many would consider this to a considerable discount; however after careful consideration, Crosby has decided to forgo some personal salary in an attempt to keep rising stars in the organization. Crosby, the Sabres captain and franchise player, could have demanded somewhere in the ballpark of $9,000,000 per season but has elected to go the way of the welfare of the organization.
GM Luke Wile commented, "Sidney is type of player that comes along once in a generation; we would have given him whatever he asked- he knew that- we knew that. Yet he still decided to take a considerable discount in an attempt to keep some big time names in town for long term."
Crosby noted, "I want to be a Buffalo Sabre my entire career. This is just another step towards making that happen."
Crosby is the second leading scorer on the Sabres this year, and ironically the second leading scoring in the entire league with 26 goals and 55 assists.
