MTL/COL Trade makes immediate impact!

After shopping Shane Doan around with little to no interest coming back, the Canadiens decided to add something more to the deal.  This little something, Christobal Huet, has started the majority of their games this year.  Once adding a starting goalie to the mix, interest began to rise.  The first deal that brought attention to Montreal was with Colorado.  Colorado's offer was the ideal offer that had to be beaten the whole trade process.  It wasn't.  After attempting for a draft pick and not getting one, Montreal took the original deal as followed:

Doan/Huet

for

St. Louis/Ellis

Not expecting to make a huge impact this year, both players came through in ending the Canadiens 11 game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over the team that traded them, the Colorado Avalanche.  Ellis recorded his 2nd shutout of the season and first as a Canadien.  St. Louis mixed perfectly with young Steen and veterans Murray and Pronger to score his first goal with the squad.

"It was the easiest transistion to start infront of the crowd we've played in all year," Ellis quoted,"I know trading is part of this league.  With a couple years on my contract left, I really wasn't expecting to be traded, but I bet neither was Marty.  Colorado is near the top of the West, and I'll be wishing them luck throughout the playoffs.  But my job is to make sure this team makes the playoffs to get a chance at playing the Avs in the finals."
