Mitchell and Scuderi the next to leave Ottawa

Ottawa-- It is a deal that took a few days to hammer out and took many different forms through out the process, but late Monday night the a deal that sees Willie Mitchell and Robert Scuderi head to Dallas for picks and a prospect was finally completed.

The deal sees Mitchell and Scuderi on there way to the Stars while prospect Mark Fistric, Dallas's 2nd round pick in 2010, San Jose's 4th in 09 and Dallas's 6th and 7th round picks in 09 are heading back to the Senators.

"It was hard to trade Willie, he is a character guy, and one of the top defensive defenseman in the BRHL," said the Sens GM, "but we are obviously going in a new direction and as valuable as we feel Mitchell would be as a teacher to our young defenseman we felt we owed it to him to give him a shot at the playoffs."

"We like what Fistric will bring to the team in the future, and we feel with the proper development and the right opportunity he could become a very similar player to Willie," added the GM.

With the 3 picks that Ottawa brought in today, it brings there total number of selection in the up coming draft to 20 picks, and with Derrick Morris still on the trade block that total could certainly increase.

"We will certainly be very busy in the up coming months and we're very excited about the future of this club, but obviously the success of these trades and the impact they will make on our team will be up to our scouts and how well they can find some hidden gems with our later picks," said GM Rob Botham.

It is also being reported that the Senators have made a minor trade with Atlanta that sees prospect Brett Sonne, a 5th rounder and $750,000 head to the Thrashers while Nick Ross and a 7th rounder are coming back to the Sens.

"Nick (Ross) is a kid we have been after for a while and we are happy to finally get him from Atlanta, and while Sonne is having a great year with the Calgary Hitmen we feel that Nick has a higher potential and that he can be an impact defenseman in the future," added the GM.

It is believed that the Sens are looking to remain active in the trade market but this time to bring in players as the Senators will have to either make a trade or call up some players to meet the salary cap floor before there next game.
