While I didn't think they would be leading the east I am surprised the Penguins are out of the playoffs, although I think at the end of the year they will be there!

malkin leading scoring race = not surprising
bruins being good is not surprising.. didnt expect great team but a good team... and the fact they are great is in large part due to #4.. the goalies being up and down happen all the time not to this extent, but it will continue in the future i think...

which leaves the pens..

if you asked me the oilers not being at 45-0 right now is the big story :)

I figured they would be at or near the top of their conference. Maybe Whitney and Gonchar will help them surge but as of right now, the Pens sucking is a big surprise to me.

with the injuries they've had, the pens out of the playoffs isn't too much of a surprise...

i'm more surprised with how the Northeast division has been this year.... Boston topping it with ottawa at the bottom... was expecting toronto to be there....

David Krejci 11th in the NHL in scoring.  No question that's the biggest surprise to me.

got agree with you steve.. no one would have thought of that at the beginning of the season... what about another surprise... Marty Turco who has a career goals against of 2.24... has a goals against this season of 3.08.
and one more good surprise.. the amazing streak san jose had at home ice without losing.. they lost 2 weeks ago. first home loss in almost a year.. during the season of course.. not playoff

My biggest surprise of the season:
Claude Lemieux making the NHL again.

Least surprising moment of the season:
Roenick running his mouth and sounding like an ass......again.

Maybe after Roenick teaches Crosby the "right way to play" he can teach him how to properly trash a hotel room after an olympic loss, or how to threaten to go to the broadcast booth and openly cheer against his home country if they didn't put him on the roster.

All great points Ian - especially Lemieux.  Just incredible... especially considering he sucked his last few NHL seasons.
