Ottawa-- Only a day after Pavel Kubina was brought back to Ottawa, he is already on the move as he is on his way out West to the Minnesota Wild in a 6 player and 3 pick trade.
Heading to Minnesota with Kubina is Ray Emery another player that was recently reacquired, while prospect Ryan White defensemen Luke Richardson and Christian Backman as well as goaltender Hannu Toivonen along with Montreal's 2nd round pick Tampa's 3rd and LA's 6th round pick (all the picks being in 09) are on their way back to the Senators.
"We knew all along that Pavel (Kubina) was a player we would try to trade when we acquired him in the Kesler trade, while we didn't think it would happen this quickly we are certainly happy it got done," said Gm Rob Botham, "we believe we have once again improved the future of our team with this trade, we feel Ryan White will develop into a solid 3rd or 4th line defensive forward and with the 2nd and 3rd round picks we acquired in this trade it gives us 9 picks in the first three rounds of the up coming draft, with more to come hopefully."
With Kubina now traded the final out come of the Ryan Kesler trade sees what should be at least a top 5 pick this year a 2nd round pick, two 3rd round picks a 5th and 6th round pick, prospect Ryan White, defensemen Luke Richardson and Christian Backman along with goalie Hannu Toivonen for Ryan Kesler, defensemen Kevin Bieksa and Alex Edler, and goalie Ray Emery.
It is believed that defenseman such as Willie Mitchell, Derek Morris, and Jim Vandermeer remain on the trade block for any team looking for a defensive upgrade.
