Late last week, the Detroit Redwings had an internal meeting.  All players, coaches, trainers, scouts, and front office personnel were in attendanceexcept for Sean Avery.  It was a very passionate meeting, with a lot of players voicing their built-up frustration about the troublesome pest.  It was at this meeting that the team decided that Mr. Avery was no longer welcome in MotorCity.

Early this morning, a deal was finalized that sent Mr. Avery to Colorado. 

The ear-to-ear grin on Mike Modano's face this morning after he heard the news told the whole story. 

The meeting last week was a result of Avery's actions the day before.  It was the morning of the Redwings and Bruins game, and the team had just come off the ice from their game-day skate.  Avery called the media over to his locker, and made atrocious comments about former girlfriend, and current baby-mama of Bruins' GM Bryce Shuck.  Things much too horrible to reprint here, but even Howard Stern said that he had gone too far. 

"I apologize, I was just trying to build up some excitement for the night's game" Mr. Avery later said.  But, the apology came too late, as his team had already had enough.

Going to Colorado is Avery and a 4th round pick.  Coming back to Detroit is Randy Robitaille, Derrick Joslin, and a 3rd round pick.

"Is this a great trade for our team?" GM MacDonald was asked.  "For sure.  I would much rather have a few minor league guys who love hockey and want to be a part of this team over a pest who wants to design purses

"Avery can be a good player when he tries, but he stopped trying here after the playoffs last season.  He was averaging over 5 pims a game, and they weren't from fighting majors.  He is an RFA after this season, and would have been overpaid for what he would bring to the team.  Joslin is a good hockey player; you can never have too many defensemen with good offensive instincts.  We will give him the time he needs to develop in the AHL and give him a fair shot to crack the lineup when he is ready.
