Going down 2-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks isn't always preferred by teams as they have enough star power to shut down any comeback a team could muster. That is, if they were playing their star goalie Craig Anderson as their starter instead of Nicklas "Dead Weight" Backstrom.

Alexander Frolov continued his strong play against his former team, setting the tone early in the first scoring his 9th goal of the season less than two minutes in. After Jason Smith took an early penalty soon after, it was clear that the momentum was clearly on the side of Chicago. However, the turning point of the game occurred on a Chicago goal. After a lengthy review, Joe Thornton was credited with his 8th of the season, but the delay took the momentum away from Chicago and allowed the Blues coaching staff to rally the troops. 1:27 later, Sergei Gonchar scored his 5th goal of the season on a great solo effort. With key saves by Nabokov, although being outshot 12-3 in the period, the Blues were only down by one goal.

The second period was nearly even in shots, a boring 6-5 in favour of the Blues, but Backstrom was pathetic letting three goals in during the period. Ben Guite scored his 5th of the night on a breakaway by a perfect pass by Gonchar (who was on his way towards a 4 point night). Gonchar also assisted on the eventual game-winner by Ryan Malone. Chris Drury scored his 6th of the year to answer recent criticism about scoring contributions from the top line.

In the third, Daymond Langkow ended Backstrom's humilation by chasing him after his goal at 4:52 of the third. Backstrom ended with 10 saves on 15 shots and Craig Anderson came in as relief. However, he wasn't helped by the shoddy defending of the Hawks. Dan Boyle set up struggling winger Miroslav Satan for his 2nd and Tim Gleason scored his 1st of the season short-handed to complete a 7-2 drubbing of the Hawks.

Sergei Gonchar was named first star of the game with a goal, three assists and a +4 rating... Tim Gleason's first of the season was also the Blues first short-handed goals... Chicago's 5th rated powerplay went 0-4. St Louis was 0-2... Only 5 skaters from the Blues lineup did not register a point...
