The Phoenix Coyotes are announcing a major trade with the Calgary flames.
Coming to Phoenix: Kari Lehtonen + PHO6th + ATL6th
Going to Calgary: Olaf Kolzig, Ryan McDonagh, John Armstrong
While the Coyotes were sad to see McDonagh leave, the addition of Lehtonen soildifies the goaltending position not only for this season, but for the future as well.
Vardy stated: "It's not every day that you make a trade that benefites you this season and into the future. While we know Ryan will be a great player, and Armstrong projects to be a solid NHLer, we feel the solidification of our goaltending for the next 10 years completely justifies losing those two guys. In all honesty we had no idea what we'd be doing between the pipes next year when Kolzig left. The UFA's would likely have cost an arm and a leg. Now, not only are we stronger this year, but we've solved the goaltending question for the forseable future."
Expect the Coyotes to give Lalime to get a few starts in the coming games as Lehtonen is coming to Phoenix a little fatigued and the team wants to take no risks.
