In the first game that counts after being beaten in the Stanley Cup Finals the Atlanta Thrasers got heavily outplayed by a much weaker Anahiem Ducks squad, getting outshot 32-21 in the game. In the First it was a period dominated by the Ducks but Carey Price held the Thrashers in the game getting outshot 12-6. After getting pounded from their C0CK of a coach early in the second period, after getting quickly down 20-6 in shots on goal. From that point on the team evened upped the shots the rest of the game, in the middle of the second Marc Savard got his first as a Thrasher as he gathered a long rebound off a Ilya Kovalchuk rush to snipe it top shelf over Ilya Bryzgalov's glove, also giving Kovalchuk his first Thrasher point. After killing a penalty that carried over from the 2nd period the Thrashers 2nd line took over in the third Scott Gomez got his first goal as a member of the team after Ales Hemsky and Dany Heatley dangled some magic on the rush and left Scott with a Bernie Nichols tap in goal. With the team smelling blood in the water D-man Paul Ranger jumped up on the rush and finished off a nice passing play set up by Dany Heatley and Scott Gomez as they undressed former Thrashers Fedor Tyutin on the play..
The theme of the night however was the stellar play of Rookie goalie Carey Price in his first start as a Thrasher. His now limp coach had this to say, "We are thrilled with how Carey came out of the gate, he made a statement tonight that he wants to be the lone #1 man in town and I love that attitude in my goalie, im glad both him and Matty have that attitude, for right now we wanna see what this very promising kid can offer though so he will be our guy for right now."
