St Louis, Chicago and Pittsburgh received picks in compensation from reversals of trades that were done with Vancouver
How about: Calgary - Round1 2008comp Columbus - 31ov 2008 LA - Round2 2009Comp, Round3 2009comp Minn - Round5 2009comp, Round1 2009comp Montreal - Round6 2009comp NYR - Round3 2008comp, Round4 2008comp, Round5 2008comp, Round6 2008comp, Round7 2008comp Tampa - Round2 2008comp, Round4 2009comp, Round7 2009comp
The idea of giving people compensatory picks really pisses me off... I mean why should my draft position be negatively impacted because of what other people did?

All of those picks (except the Columbus one) were part of the dispersal draft.
Ok, but they are new picks... Meaning other teams will drop in the draft order, correct? When I took Anaheim over last year, I wasn't given any compensatory picks, despite the low quality of the team I took over.

Well, I guess that's up to Bryce and Eric to answer...but, in the meantime, if you want to switch teams, I'm ok with that
those compensatory picks were added because of Joe, the old NYR GM...
by smartly :) trading away his entire draft class from this year and next, it left the picks remaining among all the teams in the dispersal quite weak, thus having to use compensatory picks...
nobody is getting slighted here.. it was a decision made to bring balance to the prospects/picks portion of the re-entry...

rob i agree with u 100% i think all these compensation picks are bogus.. but i wont argue in this topic because it doesnt matter anyway once the league made their decision to give the news guys alot of breaks to make it easier on the new guys,, ive stopped arguing as i guess the league assumed new g.m's wouldnt be able to succeed without a couple breaks..
also when was it decided that chi-pits-st.l got these picks i dont remeber this at all when michael left.. did i miss something last year when michael left??
Columbuses was du to a UFA error last year that they were comped.
When the new teams came in last year it was after th draft and all of them had their full slate of picks for the upcoming year. As Rex alluded to, it's to make sure new GMs had at least the chance to have a full stab at propsects.
As I haev said repeatedly, retroactively, I wish we did the dispersal the prior year with the new GMs. but we didn't and its darn tough to go back and change that now.

I wasnt really around at the time, so I maybe a bt fuzzy on teh details, but the teams that reversed trades after Vancouver left (so we could have a Vancouver team with some cognisant assets) were given comp picks. I believe that was the case anyways.
