World Championships

Despite blowing a 4-2 lead in the third to lose in overtime... an argument could be made that the Canadians played well just to get there....

if a GM was able to pick any players he wanted for a Canadian team, I would think only 8-10 players off the roster would make it....

If I had my dream team for Canada it would be

Luongo
Brodeur
Turco

Green
Burns
Bouwmeester
Phaneuf
Niedermayer
Pronger
Campbell
Spare Defensemen: Jovanovski, Hamhuis, Boyle, Redden

Nash
Getzlaf
Heatley
Thornton
Smyth
Iginla
Doan
Lecavalier
St Louis
Morrow
Crosby
Richards
Spare Forwards: Carter, Staal, Toews, Roy, Sharp, Spezza

I would like to think that instead of bringing teams like Slovenia, Italy and France, they should be replaced by a second, third or fourth team from two better hockey nations... I mean, Canada could hypothetically field 3-4 competitive teams....

i'm not denying that canada could field 6-7 teams, i'm just saying that if they were allowed, the 3-4 teams could be medal contenders while the others would be equal to the strength of finland's 1st team

i think it would be cool to go western team - ontario team possibily two -- and a quebec-east coast team..

heatley-getzlaf-iginla would be a nasty top line for the west team..

thornton-nash-spezza-e.staal would make pretty sick ontario line..

lecavlier-crosby-st.louis for the east..

nasty to think our province's could hold their own in international competitions lol..

do you think in future years... the staal brothers could all possibly play on the same line for an international tournament... like in 5 yrs time when they all have matured... i think thats possible.. only problem is jordan and eric play the center position... jared is a right winger.. so someone could have to move to the left.  and marc staal on the backend the staal parents forgot to give birth to one or two more ppl lol.

haha, imagine if they had six kids and they all played on the same team....

at center.... eric staal!
at right wing.... jared staal!
at left wing.... jordan staal!
on defense.... marc staal!

i think jordan has spent some time on the left side in pittsburgh... so i don't think he would be out of position there....

Im sure I covered this thoroughly enough in a previous post, but here it is again because I like the action this thread is getting...

FORWARDS
S. Crosby
V. Lecalvier
J. Iginla
J. Thornton
R. Nash
R. Getzlaf
E. Staal
D. Heatley

Power
R. Smyth
S. Doan
B. Morrow

Finesse
J. Spezza
M. St.Louis
D. Briere
B. Richards
S. Gagne

Progress
J. Toews
M. Richards
P. Bergeron
C. Perry
N. Horton

Decision
J. Sakic

I say the top 8 are set in stone unless injury...

Then they will only have room for 2 of 3 power forwards - morrow for sure being one of them.

Which leaves 3 roster spots among the rest... almost an impossible choice...

among the forwards needing to progress, only toews and richards possess the all-around game needed to make the team...

and sakic throws a curveball into the mix..

GOAL
R. Luongo
M. Brodeur
M. Turco
C. Price???

I dont really see any other choices out there... Leclaire or MA Fleury.. give me a break.. bernier who knows? no real other choices...

DEFENSE
C. Pronger
S. Neidermayer
J. Bouwmeester
W. Redden
R. Regehr
D. Phaneuf
B. Campbell
E. Brewer

E. Jovanovski
S. Hannan
S. Weber
S. Souray
B. Boyle
B. McCabe

I would have a very hard-time not seeing some combination of the top 8 I listed being the starting 6...

This would leave Hannan, McCabe, Jovo, and Foote off the roster theoretically... they were on the starting rosters of squads in 2002, 2004, 2006.

I just copy/pasted my previous post from several months ago...

Horton made the list of potential forwards that could make the team.. perhaps you werent paying attention...

but if you think horton is gonna make the team we could definitely put some money on it...

and if smyth has a good season 2 years from now he would easily make the team over horton if thewre numbers were similar based on years of service to Team Canada... maybe you havent been paying attention to how canada does international comp's...

must be too busy watching Nick Cannon DVD's while listening to your new Mariah CD

lol, yeah luongo is a fag because he's a canuck...

YOU DONT THINK YEARS OF SERVICE COUNT FOR ANYTHING???

The Team Canada decision makers would beg to differ...

I cant remember who the player was that started this whole mentality back before the '02 Olympics, but I seem to remember some player not having served on any of the world championship teams for Canada even though they had several opportunities to do so.... so they were left off the squad...

Does anyone else remember this story??

Please post here if you can remember.. im drawing a blank..
