After losing to the lowly New York Islanders, the Blues rebounded quickly against the Calgary Flames. The win now puts the Blues into the playoffs, but with Edmonton and Columbus with a game in hand, they now hope that Boston and Minnesota can do the Blues a favour. Columbus and Edmonton both play tonight, and if they both lose then the Blues can clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Rangers or if Edmonton and Columbus fail to win their next games against Colorado and Detroit respectively.
On paper, the odds seem to indicate that the Blues do have the best chance of getting into the postseason. Columbus play against Boston, who were knocked out of the playoffs but would love to play spoiler, and Detroit who leads the Western conference. Edmonton's path is no easier, playing against Minnesota and Colorado both are 2nd and 3rd in the conference.
"Obviously we would like to clinch the spot without needing anything from the game against the Rangers. We don't have the tiebreaker against either Columbus or Edmonton so losses in the next couple games will be extremely beneficial to us."
The Blues managed to hold onto a 4-3 win against Calgary despite being up 4-1 in the third. David Vyborny remains the hottest player in the league with a 13 game point streak. He's been rewarded with time on the top line with Langkow and Drury and he hasn't disappointed. In 20 games for the Blues, Vyborny has racked up 11 goals and 23 assists, failing to score in only two games for the Blues.
