if you would have told me we signed Gilbert to a 6-year deal I woulda said 15 mil total TOPS...

he propbably gave nilsson 8 mil/year for 3 years..



as long as he re-signs Joe Sakic for mactavish then everything will be OK in oil-land...

KLowe bought up like 5 years of gilberts UFA years. it was obviously going to cost him rex.. i didnt think it would be that high but to think u were getting gilbert for 6 yrs and 15mill is funny.. maybe do ur homework before bashing YOUR FAVORITE teams management..

i thought it was going to be a 6yr 21 million dollar contract. so 3 mill extra over 6 years dont bother me too much..

HELL COREY SARICH MAKES like 3.75 per year... gilbert at 4 mill is much better....

That signing is likely going to look pretty stupid next year or the year after...  its Pisani all over again....
And maybe compared to Sarich, it doesnt look bad... but so what?  Who would argue the Flames didnt overpay for that guy...

matt carle sure looks like a bargain right now too right :) and paul martin.. brian allen is another beauty..

lowe got very nice value on a SIX YEAR deal...




thats the thing your paying for the potential Gilbert has (like hemsky 2yrs ago, penner last yr.) sure these guys will look overpaid for first year or two but in the last 3 possibly 4 yrs of their deals all 3 will be steals for the oilers..

OK, get back to me in 3 years when Gilbert is a 3rd pairing dman (unless the Oilers still have a team full of AHL dmen like they did this year).
Penner is a good example of the same thing...
Paying for potential for guys that probably arent going to get there is a recipe for an overpaid team that can't get over the hump.

1) Sarich was a UFA, same UFA that got briere like 3 million over what he's worth.
2) Isn't that similar to what Horton signed for? hmmm Horton or Gilbert? yeah.. Horton.
3) Sarich just brought back the hope of an entire city in one fell swoop. He's far more physical than any guy on Edm's D; I think we all know whats important in the playoffs.
4) I really really like gilbert, but it's 1 year. 2 works: Dwayne Roloson.

dude your not actually serious u think sarich is better than gilbert are you?????

gilbert broke paul coffeys rookie record for goals and points by a rookie d-man.. he has a great future ahead of him as an offensive guy.. i think if he hits his potential he'll be of similar value as mat schnieder was during his peak... (i dont think gilbert will play at that level for as long though schnieds is a year in year out kinda guy),,, but for a couple years, say 3 or 4 of the 6 year deal i think he (gilbert) will have some very very good years..


and penner is just scratching the surface by the way still only 60 goals in 183 games..to begin a career isnt to bad... (all of his anahiem games were 3rd line or worse minutes aswell)...

penner will put in 30-35 next year for sure mark it down...

roli is a horrid contract dude but get real hes our backup we pay our goalies what for next year? 4.0 mill cap hit?? roli gets paid 3.6 but its only a 3 mill cap hit...

Garon played unreal this year dude and is our number one d-man..
