Shorthanded Goals lead to Blues Victory

The Blues are now just three points out of a playoff spot with two games in hand on 8th place. They approach a must-win game against the Wings after last night's victory against the Devils.

Two shorthanded goals 11 seconds apart provided the early momentum for the Blues to win 4-1. After Joe Pavelski took a penatly for high-sticking, the Blues struck. After Bonk blocked a point shot, Cooke and Klesla went on a 2-1 and after Cooke got Niitymaki to go down he saucered a pass over to Klesla who shot it into the yawning cage. 11 seconds later, Van Ryn stripped the puck off Forsberg, shot it round to Cooke who chipped in by Mattias Ohlund who pinched for Bonk on a breakaway. Bonk scored his 15th of the season on Niitymaki's high glove side. However, Roberts cut the lead to one on his 22nd goal, unassisted at 14:45.

In the second, the Devils dominated the period, outshooting the Blues 9-5 and having the only two powerplays of the period. However, Nabakov remained strong allowing for the Blues to press in the third.

After Smith and Laraque got conincidental penalties, Langkow made it 3-1 on a pretty feed from Vyborny. After intercepting a pass from the Devils defenseman Luc Bourdon, he slipped a highlight reel backhand pass onto a streaking Daymond Langkow who shot it five-hole on Niitymaki. With time running down in the third, the Devils pulled Niitymaki leaving the net wide open for Klesla to score from 120 feet.
