Best deal for Contender/Rebuilder

So what do you think is the best deal done today for a contender or a rebuilder...

at 12:39pm PST my thoughts are:

best deal for contender:
To Anaheim: M-A Bergeron
To NYI: 3rd round pick

Bergeron will provide yet another weapon for the Ducks on the blueline, and is a good puckmoving defenseman....

best deal for rebuilder:
To Pittsburgh: Marian Hossa, Pascal Dupuis
To Atlanta: Colby Armstrong, Angelo Esposito, Eric Christensen, 1st round pick

I wouldn't expect Hossa to stick around in Atlanta if they decided to keep him for the remainder of the year... Armstrong is a good energy forward, Christensen has some skill, Esposito is a solid prospect and the 1st rounder isn't something to laugh at....

I'll expect some comment about how great Florida will be now that they have belak on their team....

I think the Isles/Ducks deal was good for both. Bergeron was terrible in NY where they need dmen who can play 5-5. In Anaheim, the top-4 eat up so many minutes he can be a power play specialist.

Best deal for a contender: Dallas getting Richards. They traded their backup goalie and a couple of third/fourth liners for a number one center.

Worst deal for a contender: Montreal trades Huet. Why? Even if you would rather go with Price, keep the veteran as a backup. Anytime you consider yourself a contender, and all you do is subtract, you lose.

Best deal for a rebuilder: Adam Foote for a 1st. He is just not that good anymore. The first will be Colorado's first this year if they make the playoffs, so it would probably be around 15 or so. If they don't, it is Colorado's first next year, which could be a lottery pick.

Dallas, San Jose and Pittsburgh helped their teams for the playoff push.

Should be interesting to see how it all pans out.  As a diehard Penguins fan, I'd like to see if they could keep Hossa. Although, I seriously doubt that happening. Although if it propels them to the 6-7th game of the conference finals, it's worth it.

Canadiens have to feel like the came up with nothing..  Trading Huet made sense to me, provided they restocked their shelf with a backup (Roloson, Hebberg, etc.). Even though Huet hasn't been spectacular, putting the faith in Price is a risk.  Even though Price responded well in the AHL last year, the NHL is a different game.

Anyone out west get tickets to the 5-year re-union tour of when the Avs come to visit?

Very interesting day to say the least.

theres no way the Avs are going to be one of the worst teams in the league next year.

Why not? If Sakic doesn't come back and they don't fix their goalie problems they very well could be. Right now there is all of a 10 point difference between them and Atlanta, and a bunch of teams (especially out West) seem to be on the upswing, such as Phoenix, Chicago, Columbus, St. Louis. If those teams continue to improve, and Colorado takes even a small step back, they will be in trouble.

Of course things will likely change during the offseason.
