Shopping Plekanec - A steal of a deal

Plekanec is gonna rerate upwards to 77-78 for next season, and at a contract like this in RFA, he is a very, very good, cheap asset.

PlayerNHL SalaryOverallAgeContract Length Contract Value/YR MAX SBMin Cap Hit/Year
plekanec160000072241 $             1,337,125  $   133,713  $         1,203,413
2 $             1,407,500  $   281,500  $         1,266,750
3 $             1,548,250  $   464,475  $         1,393,425
4 $             1,548,250  $   619,300  $         1,393,425
5 $             1,548,250  $   774,125  $         1,393,425

I am looking for other forwards, perhaps more expensive or even just being older.

I am definitely willing to discuss a huge deal if you are interested in other players too...

This is very interesting. That is a good deal for Plekanec, the RFA scenario makes this a hard choice. Do you lock in for 5 years at this cheap price but lose him at age 29, or do you play somewhere in the middle at this price, maybe 2-3 years then resign him into his UFA for closer to 4-5M? Tough choices...

One quick note. Rex, you entered it wrong, you've gotta take their average NHL salary because that is what the cap hit is and we cant front or back load contracts so we just take the straight cap hit and that is 1.6M not 1.4M. He earns 1.4M this year and 1.8M next year.

yeah if I was the guy gonna sign him, I would probably do a 1-year deal and then as soon as the season started use one of my RFA tenders on him at a 5-year deal...

that would maximize his value.. because the habs have him for 07/08 and 08/09... so they will likely try ro lock him up before he hits RFA, so likely during the season, or start of the season..

everyone is going to have to adjust and take this into consideration.....

I would say 5 year deal cheap, then tag him one year after that gives you 6 years at a very low salary.

No...but I am sure everyone is the same.  People sticking in leagues that are fun.  I am in a league that is over 10 years old.

But hey, if you aren't having fun....then no one is making you stay.

Woh with the attacks, I just find it surprising that people are thinking for 6 years from now cuz in 6 years I sure don't plan on being in any FHL leagues.

Not an attack at all.  Bryce's other league is 6-7 years old too.  If you are in a good league, then it can last a long time.  And it isn't surpising....good leagues that last keep their GMs even for years and years.  If it isn't for you, then it is all good.

i understand both sides. i had originally been in the BRHL and had the devils built into a unreal powerhouse team. with work and life though i didnt have time to do day to day things that it took to be a good g.m so i had to step aside..

with georges point, i love this league we have and do plan on being in it for a long long time. the fact their is a small small sum of money we put in makes this league even better and more entertaining in my opinion.
