SPECULATIVE TEAM CANADA 2010 ROSTERS

GOAL
R. Luongo
M. Brodeur
M. Turco
C. Price???

I dont really see any other choices out there... Leclaire or MA Fleury.. give me a break.. bernier who knows? no real other choices...

DEFENSE
C. Pronger
S. Neidermayer
J. Bouwmeester
W. Redden
R. Regehr
D. Phaneuf
B. Campbell
E. Brewer

E. Jovanovski
S. Hannan
S. Weber
S. Souray
B. Boyle
B. McCabe

I would have a very hard-time not seeing some combination of the top 8 I listed being the starting 6...

This would leave Hannan, McCabe, Jovo, and Foote off the roster theoretically... they were on the starting rosters of squads in 2002, 2004, 2006.

FORWARDS
S. Crosby
V. Lecalvier
J. Iginla
J. Thornton
R. Nash
R. Getzlaf
E. Staal
D. Heatley

Power
R. Smyth
S. Doan
B. Morrow

Finesse
J. Spezza
M. St.Louis
D. Briere
B. Richards
S. Gagne

Progress
J. Toews
M. Richards
P. Bergeron
C. Perry
N. Horton

Decision
J. Sakic

I say the top 8 are set in stone unless injury...

Then they will only have room for 2 of 3 power forwards - morrow for sure being one of them.

Which leaves 3 roster spots among the rest... almost an impossible choice...

among the forwards needing to progress, only toews and richards possess the all-around game needed to make the team...

and sakic throws a curveball into the mix..

Rex's Choice for Team ----------------  Team Canada Likely Team

GOAL
R. Luongo  ------------------- R. Luongo
M. Turco --------------------- M. Turco
M. Brodeur ------------------- M. Brodeur

My opinion: Price on team if Brodeur retires.

DEFENSE
C. Pronger -------------- C. Pronger
J. Bouwmeester --------- J. Bouwm
R. Regehr --------------- R. Regehr
D. Phaneuf -------------- D. Phaneuf
B. Campbell ------------- E. Brewer
S. Weber --------------- E. Jovanovski
S. Neidermayer ---------- S. Neidermayer

My opinion: Boyle in Neidermayers place if he retires.

Why would Team Canada choose Brewer and Jovo over Weber and Campbell? Because of history and previous stints on the club.

FORWARD
S. Crosby ----------------- S. Crosby
V. Lecalvier --------------- V. Lecalvier
J. Iginla ------------------- J. Iginla
J. Thornton --------------- J. Thornton
R. Nash ------------------- R. Nash
R. Getzlaf ----------------- R. Getzlaf
E. Staal ------------------- E. Staal
B. Morrow ----------------- B. Morrow
J. Spezza ------------------ J. Spezza
D. Heatley ----------------- D. Heatley
D. Briere ------------------- S. Doan
S. Gagne ------------------ S. Gagne
J. Sakic ------------------- J. Sakic

My opinion: Mike Richards in Sakic's place if he retires.

I think Doan and Jovo make the team because of gretz involvement.. no joke..

and I also think that the last 2 forward spots (with 1 more if sakic retires) will go to a group including: St. Louis, Doan, Briere, Smyth, Richards, Richards, Gagne, Toews

Here's my team

Goalies
Luongo
Brodeur
Giguere

Forwards
Thornton
Iginla
Heatley
Crosby
Lecavalier
Nash
Getzlaf
Morrow
Sakic
Staal
Gagne
B.Richards (I believe he needs out of TB to resurect career)

Defense
Pronger
Phaneuf
Bouwmeester
Weber
Boyle
Campbell
#7 D will be a young player, maybe Bourdon.

Noticeable exlusions were Spezza, Reghr, and St.Louis. I feel that Canada will have plenty of offense so they don't need Spezza and avoid is brutal give aways. Reghr hasn't been playing as well since 05/06 and we have some decent young players coming. St.Louis I would add if Sakic is retired. Mike Richards is also a possibility.

Overall, I think there will be a handful of young players hitting the league that could change anyone's list in the next 2 years.

regehr has fallen off since 05/06??

The Flamers, which is one of the most defensive-obssessed teams in the NHL (and keenan and sutter at the top are 100 miles an hour) calls on him and Sarich each and every night to play agianst the other teams top line... that means that he probably hasn't "fallen off" IMO...

and there is an attitude among Team Canada Ranks that the more times you've played, the better your chances... and other than NEidermayer (who might be reitred) and Pronger, is regehr... equal to bouwm and brewer...

obviously bouwm will be on the team, but why wouldnt they remove Brewer from the Team before Regehr?? you have both not being on the team..

so you are saying that Team Canada will play with 5 new dmen out of their top 7 in 2010 @ HOME... with only 2 remaining being pronger, jbouwm...

I understand what your saying and your choices you put in are right up there... but I think if Scott Neidermayer is still playing, he'll play on the team, and I also say they 100% FOR SURE will keep Regehr on the squad, making it his 4th appearance in a row for major Team Canada events... and possibly even keep Brewer on the squad too.. they are funny like that...

But as for Regehr, he is a lot like CP44 in the fact that every team he plays against thinks he's a dirty player and a bastard, and everyone on his team loves him... but they play tough and they are incredible defensively...

i like that you posted though

I highly doubt Niedermayer will be around in 2 years.

I can see Regehr being there, but I would prefer to see another guy there who can move the puck better then he can.

In the past Canada has gone with the experience factor but look how that worked for them in 06. Canada has developed some really good players since then and I think they would be foolish to bring guys back just because they were there before.

Does anyone know if the tournament will be played on an NHL sized pad since it's in Canada?

Im pretty sure IIHF granted them a ruling that it would be fine to play it on NHL ice size.

tonight on sportscenter bob mackenzie used my exact lineup except:

cam ward in place of turco.

boyle in place of jbouwm (with neidermayer on team)

st.louis in place of morrow
toews in place of briere

personally i think for him not to have jbouwm makes me worth far more than bob's salary, because he is obviously not doing his job...

just curious how many scathing letters have been sent to TSN and Bob MacKenzie's staff from Aaron regarding jbouwms omission.....

i hope to hear something in response from buffalo's organization regarding this slap in the face... perhaps a press conference...

hehe, i am of course kidding, but at the same time, i mean how easy is it to bash on mackenzie for missing him...
