Why would he complain? The Oilers are battling for a play-off spot and are currently wasting 6.9 million on Holmstrom (20pts in 38 games). I am not saying that this happened, but strategy wise, why not lose him (and no other team can have him this year) and make a deal with your 6.9 million in cap room for a top player that can push you over the hump and into the play-offs.
We should definatlly look at situations like this for next year! There has to be a penalty for signing a player to 500% more than his demand!
A few ideas: If you lose a player to going over the cap, a certain % (say 70) goes towards your cap A no-trade clause for signing players to huge ammounts: 40% over current salary = 1 years 60% over current salary = 2 years 80% over current salary = 3 years
I am only trying to get something going here because I like this league and I would like to be in it for years to come. There has to be a way to stop the horrific FA signings that GM's make because it is a fantasy league!
