After starting the season 8-12-1-3, Brent Densmore, GM of the Edmonton Oilers, has fired coach Lou Lamoriello. Brent had the following to say about his decision:
"We feel we have a good team here and we just haven't had the start we were expecting. This was a tough decision for me to make, especially after Lou coached our team to the Stanley Cup finals last year. But after this slow start, we feel the team has gone as far as it can under Lou and we wish him the best of luck in the future."
While unconfirmed, there are rumours swirling around Rexall Place that the next coach of the Oilers will be none other than Wayne Gretzky. Brent Densmore refused to comment on these rumours and said the coaching decision will be made in the next few days. Until then, it is believed Brent will be behind the bench as interim coach.
Blues would like to express their disappointment at the thread being broken, they had thought that the thread had potential and was cut down in its prime.
