Opinions on Trades - Regular Season 2007-08

I figured it was time to start a new top as the old one is called "pre-season"...

So let's get started...

To Anahiem:
Tim Connolly
Michael Frolik
Minnesota 2nd, 2008

To Atlanta:
Jordan Staal
Hal Gill

I think I got some payback here against Kirk for all the lowball offers he has put me through.  If Connolly can stay healthy for an extended period of time and Frolik meets his potential, Kirk will be regretting this one!

Other opinions?

i definitely agree with you, the major factor is whether or not connolly can remain healthy... if he does, he's one of the best puckmovers in the game, tremendous skill... frolik is a great prospect to have and a late 2nd rounds it out... you gave up gill, the guinness book of world record holder of human who resembles the most like a pylon and staal... staal is young and with a nice cheap salary, but has struggled early on in the season... if his struggles continue and his rerate next season shows it, kirk will definitely regret this deal...

Agreed. Connolly is one of my top 5 favorite NHLers, he's the Matt Hasselbeck of hockey. If he can stay un-concussed he'll be around 50-60 assists a year. Though Staal has been dealt while his value is low, you could have fetched a lot more if you waited til he picks it up (if he does).

18 yr olds who put up 29 goals impress me. sophmore slump or not. 3 yrs 850k also is a nice addition. the fact he is on a team with crosby also is a bonus because when petr starts floating 99% of the game instead of his first half of the season (check edm) 60% of the game, therrien will bench him and staal in my opinion will be the one they picked 2nd overall and will get first chance to play with sid. jordan also is a great PK specialist at the very least. connolly is always one flick to the ear away from another concussion..

the nhl leader in pk minutes per game with great size and strength also is a good pick up at 1.6 mill for a couple years. i have excess picks and moved pothier who i value similar to gill for a good package and a early 2nd..

i think Kirk got a really good deal.

all depends how Frolik pans out though.
