Islanders take lead, get shaky netminding, then hold on to tie Dallas 5-5
The Long Island faithful got to see their team outshoot the Stars 35-25, their alternate captain Simon score two goals and set up another to take a 4-2 lead into the third period in what could have been an easy win. However, weak goaltending has been the team's achilles heel lately and Theodore let in three soft goals late, was pulled in favour of backup Hedberg, and a late effort by Isles captain and team top scorer Lang tied it all up at 5 to salvage a point out of the game.
The Isles next take on the Northeast division basement dwelling Maple Leafs on Tuesday, followed by a match-up with divisional rival Devils Wednesday. New York tied New Jersey in the season opener and the Islanders have a 2-2-1 record against teams in their division.
"Three points in the next two games is possible," says g.m. VanIslander. After recently playing powerhouses like Minnesota and Atlanta, and division leaders in San Jose and Montreal, the Isles are finally getting a shot to compete.
