For those who noticed, after tonight's sim Mats Sundin had been suspended for the remainder of the season due to a cap violation. This occured after I traded two 5th round picks for Pierre Turgeon and Luke Richardson on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday night I played a game against the Islanders and those 2 players were added to my pro team as scratched players which put me over the cap. I talked to Eric tonight and asked him how I'm expected to know those two players will be traded to my pro team when i didn't trade any players for them (only picks) and the previous lineup I had sent in was perfectly valid. My point was that my lineup of 20 players I had sent in before making any trades was still perfectly valid just that Richardson and Turgeon were added to my pro squad as players 21 and 22. I then checked in my FHL Sim what happens if I make the trade and load my previously sent in lines and as I had thought, the two players were moved to my Farm team. Eric checked again on his sim and the two players were scratched. We came to the conclusion that this was an update done in a later version of FHL Sim (I have version 1.5.468 and Eric has version 1.5.307). Because of this the decision was reversed and Sundin is back on my pro team.
I suggested to Eric that in the off-season (or now) we should discuss a rule change where trades would be processed after games are simmed and that GM's are responsible for making an agreement between themselves if they want a certain player not to play for that night's game to make sure he does not get hurt. This takes away all the responsiblity from the league to deal with injured players being traded and it's up to the GM's and it also solves the main cap issue of having to send an e-mail note about your lines if a trade could put you over the cap.
im confused? u played a game over the cap and had him suspended but now hes back on ur team??? isnt this similar to what happened to colorado (makin a trade and it putting him over cap.) and st/louis is still suspended.. how is this any different?

I would say the difference would be if a player that is on a minors team gets traded and automatically placed on the pro team. If the trade is processed before the sim, there is no way for the GM to know that he is over the cap, or that the players are on his pro roster.
a bit different, but similar, as mine was more about sending players down that for some reason were not sent down. I sent an email to manually send down the players in question as I am sure many of you gm's have had the problem where GM editor will state 'line changes were not saved'. This is how the problem came to. We are still in talks about st.loius. I have done all i can do on my end and hope for my teams sake that things are resolved very soon.
I'm not sure what happened to Colorado but it is different from the Phoenix situation last year in that Turgeon and Richardson were both under 70 overall so they could be sent to the farm and the lines I sent previously were still valid in that the 20 players were still on my team (I didn't trade any players for those 2 guys). It is also different in the way that the new version of the sim if both of these conditions are met will automatically send the players to the farm why Eric's version does not and there was no way for me to know that.
I am fine with the decision made, thanks for the update.
Also, I agree 100% with the following suggestion:

I disagree with inputting trades after the sim. That means to have accurate rosters, finances etc, the Commish would have to output the files twice.

I think that is an unreasonable expectation.
How would they have to output twice? They sim, process trades and then output, not anymore complicated than right now.
Im still sticking to my idea of the Top 23 salaries counting against the cap...that way we dont have to deal with silly day-to-day transaction issues like this...
We can also get rid of the loophole where 69ov UFAs are getting $5M to play in the minors... in a 30 team league a 69ov player or a 70ov G can be an everyday player.
In the meantime, we should have a CAP thread where teams that are close to the cap can publically alert the league in advance regarding transactions and injuries.
