It's only 6 games into the season, and every roster player (except for the 2nd and 3rd string goaltenders) has at least one point. 26 Goals from 16 different skaters. Not one player with a negative +/- rating. Thats pheonominal balance, and the reason the team is 3rd overall in the league.
I must apologize to all you you I have fustrated during the summer. I was quite stubborn in not trading my star players once I had my roster set. Unfortunatly for you, the plan has worked pretty well, and those stars won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
Not only are the stars getting it done, but roleplayers not expected to find the score sheet are leading the way for the wings.
Lawrence Nycholat, the 27 year old journeyman rookie, has 7 points in 6 games, tied for the lead rookie scoring and tied for second for scoring by defenseman.
Colby Armstrong, has 6 points (4+2) in 6 games on the second line. Martin Rucinsky, brought in this summer to provide injury depth on the third line, has 6 points (3+3). The 4th line has even contributed, chipping in 3 goals and a combined +6 rating thru 6 games.
Detroit GM MacDonald is pretty excited about the rest of the season. The only downside he sees is that he has to wait until day 55 to play league leading division rival Chicago.
"We are hot now, we want to see where both teams really stand. I wish I could play them 6 times in the next 6 days" MacDonald said.
