After running multiple test seasons with the up to date roster and seeing the final 3 out of 6 years being the same two teams that battle tonight in Atlanta.
The game is a battle between two powerhouse teams the Chicago Blackhawks and the Atlanta Thrashers. The Hawks send out a overall team average of 76 overall, while the Thrashers skate a 74 overall average on the ice.
With the Hawks skating the most dominate set of forwards ever iced together on one team pairing Thornton-Marleau-Havlat together to creat a beast of an offensive line that will almost impossible to keep under 2 goals a game. The 2nd line doesnt step back too far with the highest scoring rating in the brhl2 (89sc tied with another guy in the game tonight) centering the line. Vincent Lecavalier-Jean-Pierre Dumont-Marco Sturm will provide a challenge for any team they play.. Third line ace's Handzus and Legwand could also play a key role in alot of the games this season for the Hawks.. The defense in Chicago is filled with solid group of defenders. Vishnovsky-Rosival-Volchenkov-Markov set up a very well rounded defensive core. Backstrom will be the Netminder for all the Hawks dreams this season.
In Atlanta the team skates a dynamic first unit of offense aswell putting Dany Heatley (2nd highest sc in brhl2 at 88)-Ales Hemsky- Marian Gaborik (the guy tied with lecavlier for highest scoring) this line will be one of the fastest and highest producing in the brhl2. On the second line they skate Zubrus-Brindamour-Penner which is a big physical line that will pound teams down throughout the season. Third line aces Pandalfo and Pisani figure to lockdown other teams on the PK. The defense consist's of the most physically dominate player in the whole brhl2 in Zdeno Chara, combining him with the highest scoring defenseman in the brhl2 in sheldon souray, and also tom poti and steve staios give this team nice options on the top 2 pairs. In net the Dreams of the Thrashers ride on a unproven goalie Chris Mason who will be looked upon to be the clear number one this year.
The travel for the Thrashers after opening in Anahiem last night, then having to travel cross country for tonight's game at home could be an issue but the home opener for the team should boost the team's energy.
Tonight though all eyes will be on the play of the new netminder's Niklas Backstrom, and Chris Mason these two are being counted on to become a cup contending goaltender only after great half a season in the NHL. Will they be up to the task or not? Will the offense of Lecavlier's 2nd line be the difference or the Dominance of Chara on the back end be the difference check in tonight to see.
Defending champs are stronger with Sundin in the house and the Wild have a perfect mix of goaltending (DiPietro), star offense (Zetterberg, Selanne, Sedin, Sedin, Huselius, Clark) and supporting defense (Schneider, Zhitnik, Numminen, Johnsson) to thrive on the powerplay.
