Blues Start Season in Pittsburgh

After a decent preseason where the heroes Alexander Frolov and Evengi Nabakov were the stars in St Louis, it seems for the new season, they will be dependent on once again.

The top line of Saku Koivu, Alexander Frolov and Mark Recchi will be depended on for most of the scoring. Alexander Frolov had 7 goals in 10 games, so if St Louis is expecting do well during the season, Frolov will need to match his scoring output throughout the season.

The second line consists of Ryan Malone, Nik Antropov and Jamie Langenbrunner, this line is a bit of an experiment for the Blues coaching staff. Malone and Antropov are two big bodies, and they must be hoping for Langenbrunner to use his skill in the extra room these two guys will create.

The third line consists of the defensive ability of Matt Cullen, the speed of Boyd Devereaux and the grit of Daniel Cleary. Obviously Alain Vigneault is trying to use Cullen and Cleary to force the puck over at their own blueline and then send Devereaux with his speed away for a counter attack.

Jeffrey Hamilton is the pivot of the fourth line, nicknamed 'That 70's Line' because all their speed ratings are 70. Not very original, but hey, best on short notice. Alexander Burrows will be the pest of the fourth line with Vernon Fiddler providing solid defensive work.

The powerplay won't feature Ryan Malone, mainly because his defensive work will be needed on the penalty kill, instead Jeffrey Hamilton will get the minutes there. Ryan Malone, Daniel Cleary, Alexander Burrows and Matt Cullen will get the main minutes on the penalty kill, with Vernon Fiddler providing relief when needed.

On the blueline, they're big, tough and defensively aware. Adam Foote, Rostislav Klesla, Tim Gleason and Kyle McLaren will be looked upon to provide solid defense while Pavel Kubina will be looked upon to move the puck up to the forwards. Stephane Robidas will be a decent and cheap option at the #6 position.

In net are two capable goalies, Evengi Nabakov is a talented goalie, as many saw in the preseason ending it on a shutout in the final game. David Aebischer didn't have the best preseason, but he'll be called upon during times where Nabakov will be needed for his rest periods.
