I picked Johnson but I can definitely see Toews winning it in a "landslide". If EJ can get 18-19 minutes a game and get 40-45 points I think he has it locked up though.
I kinda like Bryan Little too. I dont really think that Brett Sterling can hold that position down. I dont think little will win the calder, but he could surprise.
I wouldnt be all that shocked if Gagner made EDM really. I think hes looked pretty unreal for a good stretch of months here now.
I think Jack Johnson is a worthy candidate except for he might not get the necessary ice time either since they got Blake, Visnovsky, Stuart, Preissing, Modry etc there too.
I would be all that shocked if someone not even on this list one it either haha.
Oilers have 49 people under contract, the CBA states that you can only have 50. They haven't invited any pro's to camp on a tryout, it's not tough to do the math there. Pisani's injury means Gagne will likely get 9 NHL games to make the team like Staal did in Pittsburgh last season.
Cogliano has signed a contract so he's included in that 49 players. And yes that includes all contract NHL, AHL, ECHL, even signed guys going overseas or to junior.
I doubt he makes the team simply because there's so many other quality rookies that have served in the AHL. I do think he'll be a first callup becase he seems like a MacT player, smart defensively, and fast. Though personally I don't see the offensive upside that others do. But he'll likely play in Springfield and play top line to see how he progresses. I think Schremp makes the team in a 4th line-PP role to start the season, and Nillson gets that 2nd line look.
Hmmm, interesting for sure. I really am not in tune with some of the rookie battles up in Oil Country. I guess Ryan Omarra is even still below Cogliano as hes only played a few AHL games right? Wouldnt he be a better fit on that 4th line spot over Schremp?
You think this is schremps make or break year? Its been 3 years since he was drafted. I guess more like the year after this is his make or break, but it seems to be taking a while.
I think it would make more sense yes, but I think that the pressure is there to give Schremp a look. I don't consider this a make or break year, fact is he's still quite young, the team is bringing him along slowly because he's had a bad attitude, and MacT has no clue how to coach skill, so why kill his confidence when he can't handle it.
Yeah that is true. Thats similar to Benooit Pouliot who has a bit of a bad attitude. Will be interesting to see Edmonton this year. Your team is drastically different.
Anyways, we're off topic for this thread a bit now haha.
