today while talking to phil the montreal g.m a resident of calgary (keep comments to urself as i will try to myself haha) says to me that he will not be able to talk long as he is going to the canada-russia prospects game in red deer that night and asked me if i wanted him to look at any players. he informs me him and his buddy aaron the buffalo g.m were going to be attending.
i then inform him i am going to game and we exchange cell numbers so we can meet up before the game.. once in red deer phil texts me and says he has couple extra brews and invites me for one at his car in the parking lot... i hadnt recieved my ticket yet from my old lady's uncle who bought them from ticketmaster. so i had to decline and wait for my ticket, as phil came to building after having his brews he calls me and we shake hands and say hello yada yada,, he informs me aaron the buffalo g.m had gone inside to watch the warmups and found out he couldnt come back to the parking lot and was stuck inside,, the game is about to start so he headed in and we said we'd text again and have a beer at intermission..
finally the old lady's uncle shows we get our tickets get inside at start of anthem and find our seats. small world it is hers and mine seats were directly infront of aaron and phils. the game is about to start so i go for a couple beers sacrificing the first 2-3 minutes of action i figure.. (red deer rebels fans how on ****ing earth do u do it??? i waited for 14;00 minutes of the first period only catching half the action while standing in the beer line.. i return to my seat and the game was 2-0 russia) .. throughout game the three of us talk some hockey,, some brhl,, (yes rex became a topic haha) and i had a fun time,, turns out aaron is a pretty funny dude and hear is a first for me on the boards,, an apology as i had read and judged the guy wrong based on some of his messageboard comments,, his view on letang becoming a dan boyle clone i think is a little out in left field (so did phil) .. but he is a very very smart person when it comes to hockey answering a bunch of my stupid questions bryce usually has to deal with.. like who was it that drafted alzner again?? (i know i know im dumb some times).. phil is a pretty killer guy aswell cheering for a brawl at every whistle best kinda fan their is lol. and still a very smart hockey person aswell..
overall it was a pretty good night even though the boys only tied but u could tell they really dont have the killer instinct right now after dominating for 6 games it is expected, wouldnt be shocked by a russian win in vancouver,, Sammy, tavarez, alzner are the three that really caught my eye.. (gagne is a supreme supreme talent ive never watched kane live but its hard to imagine gagne wasnt even best player on his junior team.) (Tavarez strength is what caught my attention to him on PP he sets up in ryan smyth like area's looking to score goals. his speed and accelerationg are the things that dont make him crosby like good in my mind.. (but at his age he has more than enough time to develop that ) it was his gritty play i like.. taking pokes at goalie when he was trying to cover pucks. pushing on a couple d-men's back of their skate blade and causing them to fall down his ability to do this without getting a penalty for it.. just the little things that vetern nhlers do to gain an advatage are things he knows and uses at his age is scary.. with better skating he would be crosby good which is INSANE..) (alzner is a rock of a blue-liner making the smart plays up boards. up boards off glass, up middle, up middle flip out.. makes all the smart reads when in his own zone..)

Thats unreal boys!!!!!!!!! Good to hear the boys are mixing it up. Too bad some of you guys arent located near Rhode Island or we could meet up and talk some hockey as well. dam I wish I was at that game as well.
Speaking of craziness, I meant to tell all you guys that 2 weeks ago when I was in DisneyWorld with my girl down in Florida, I was at the World Shocase in Epcot in the Canada section and the kid working there I noticed was from Red Deer so I yelled out "GO REBELS". The kid turned around and was fired up that I knew where Red Deer was and about the Rebels. We talked hockey for about an hour and he told me he's all fired up for the Edmonton/Tampa Bay game.
Also he is childhood buddies with Cam Ward and went to school and played hockey with him all his childhood and still keeps in touch with him. With all the Red Deer talk I remembered I wanted to tell all you guys.
Was an interesting night for sure. Quite an exciting atmosphere at the Enmax Centrium. Brent Sutter's last game there, he had a presentation and speech to the fans at the end of it. Canada played kinda poorly, but all in all it was an awesome game.
It's true, Kirk and his lady were the exact two seats in front of Phil and I. Was nice meeting you guys.
