In a bid to compete for the minor league championship this coming season several players were brought in via trade and UFA. The following formations are made to start the season:
LeClair - Turgeon - Samsonov Big John might be slow and poor in the scoring and defending departments these days, but he still has size, puck control, even a bit of hitting and passing, not to mention a wealth of experience and leadership. Pierre was an excellent UFA pickup for the Tigers as he brings some speed, puck control and especially scoring. His lack of durability and especially endurance suggests his contributions will be spotty (though brilliant). Sergei is in the doghouse this season and yet his worldclass speed, coupled with a little passing and puck controlling, suggests he could be an impact at the minor league level. With a new team this season he's expected to rebound for promotion to the pro club the following season.
Saprykin - York - Metropolit Oleg may be defensively challenged but he has the tools to be a decent minor leaguer in all other areas. Mike is coming off of a very disappointing season that saw him struggle, get traded and still not make an impact. He has good speed and puck control, and even a bit of hitting ability, but his passing and scoring is barely enough to warrant second line duty on the Tigers. He's expected to regain his touch within a year and join the Isles. Glen is very much like Mike, playing a bit better, though he's rumoured to be heading back to Europe at the end of this coming season of play in the BRHL2. This line should dominate many second lines in the minor league, especially if Oleg gets some help in scoring.
Strudwick - Park - Alexeev Jason brings great strength and hitting to the Tigers third line and enough defense to help out. Richard is a true Islander and is shocked to find himself deemed minor league material. His puck control ability is underrated, as anyone who has seen his playoff scoring would atest to. He brings to the Tigers good wheels and great defense: the team's top penalty killer. Nikita is strong with speed and puck control to substitute on the second line where necessary.
The Svitov Line: work in progress A trade has brought in Alexander for the season to be a hard-hitting fourth-line centre with size and some puck control. The organization has some guys to provide speed and skating but little else for wing. Weinhandl will be a winger and either centre Kreps or Brent will likely be moved to get another winger. Nokelainen will be benched as a short-term substitute only.
Lebda - Heward Brett is very fast with decent puck control and some size and hitting. Jamie has great puck control and good endurance to handle the workload, with some hitting and passing.
Clymer - Niinimaa Ben hits well and likes the puck though it doesn't go where he wants it to. Janne is all-around decent at the minor league level except for having absolutely no passing or scoring ability.
Weaver - Richardson Mike and Luke are tolerable defensive defensemen as a third pairing, Mike bringing good hitting and Luke good size.
Dunham Hedberg
Mike was signed as a UFA to be the Tigers starter. His puck control is excellent and he brings a lot of intensity and size, though the speed of his reflexes and his skating are only very good in the minor leagues. He also has endurance issues so if he struggles he may end up in a tandem with his backup.
Johan wants to be with the pro club the following season but at worst expects to be a Tigers starter at some point. He has good size and an all-around decent game. If he had more endurance he might compete for the starting position. As it is, he may see significant ice time in tandem with the starter.
The Tigers will have to adjust to the occasional absence of call-up players, most likely the cheaper options of Strudwick-Park-Metropolit at the three forward positions, Clymer on defense, and Tigers third stringer Nolan Schaefer. However, it'll all depend on how much cap room will be available on the parent club.
Perfect reason why there should be a player salary cap for the farm.
What?.... I'm not against having a player salary cap for the farm for a season down the road. But I have worked within the rules to prepare a competitive team for THIS season. Is my team guarranteed to win? Of course not. Is it built to make the playoffs and probably go at least to the second round? Yes.
The minor league only pays cash for the two finalist teams. My efforts over the last several months have not guarranteed me a squat cent.
The Phoenix Coyotes' minor league affiliate could possibly ice a playoff team in the Western Conference. There are twelve (12) decent forwards, five (5) decent defensemen and enough extras. Only goaltending is lacking. But the organization requires a third goalie to meet requirements so it's possible that Kevin Weekes could start on the farm and another goalie added to the parent club.

If the Coyotes organization wishes to upgrade its parent organization there will be a market for the Rampage's several great defensive forwards and good scoring first line of Hudler - Platt - Tjarnqvist.
The Houston Aeros expected to make the postseason out West
The parent club of the Minnesota Wild is full of well-rated players making the line-up for the minor league pretty predictable. Robert Esche will do well backstopping a defensively skilled line-up with a lot of speed up front, puck control and chemistry if some of the centres that can are moved to wing. Brashear and May give an unsurpassed physical presence. The team could use a couple of finishers and an offensive defenseman but otherwise should stil be playoff bound.

The New York Rangers have 26 highly rated players who can't be sent to the farm. It's possible the organization could add up and coming prospects rated well enough to have impact on the farm.
The Wolf Pack already have top flight players for minor league competition. It could ice a top line of Hossa-Potulny-Lapierre with Laich a good second line winger for Pouliot or Rissmiller. Pock can anchor the top defensive pairing and Murray can be an impact player. Tellqvist and Montana are a competent tandem.
Hartford have the basis for doing alright as is. At some point in the season the team can decide whether to trade to bolster its playoff hopes.

The Carolina Hurricanes minor league affiliate of the last two seasons has two speedy puck controlling talents from Russia in its line-up for the coming season. Kaigorodov can pass and score some and Pushkarev can hit and score a bit too. With fast Paille and defensive Sutherby likely centering the next two lines, Russian Mikhinov will bring his speed and size to the fourth line pivot position in all likelihood. Larose can pass and be moved to second line right wing and Eager has great hitting and size and can be moved to left wing to complete a Eager-Paille-Larose effective second line. Methot-Jones is an elite top defensive pairing at the minor league level. Semenov brings size, hitting and passing to round out the big 3 on the blueline. Crawford is a backup quality netminder who will do quite well against unrated opponents.
The 'Canes affiliate only really needs a better starting goaltender to compete for the divisional title and home ice advantage.

We all knew from day one what the cash payouts are for, and choose to make our decisions accordingly, some teams going for top-50 prospects, others for best possible top line-defensive pairing to support individual players win awards, other g.m.s going for the team awards at the pro level. The NYI organization is one of those teams which is trying to compete for the minor league achievements.

Very few if any franchises can afford to go for ALL achievements. Sacrifices in trading are made based on priorities.
I was the g.m. who - in the dispersal draft last summer - picked the player who became the minors MVP of last season, Alexander Daigle, because he was a 69 ov with good offensive numbers. But he needs help from linemates to realize his success so I traded him away to a team which had minor league talent.
Any organization has trade-offs to make in choosing which areas to be a top contender in, which areas to compete in, and which not to bother with. That's part of what this is all about!
Thanks. Sometimes just hearing one person say it's appreciated makes the effort worthwhile.
Possible alternative line formations: Park
LeClair - Turgeon - Samsonov York
Saprykin, Svitov, Alexeev, Strudwick, Metropolit
Heward - Clymer Weaver - Niinimaa Richardson
Dunham Hedberg This puts a more offensive-producing Saprykin on the uber-offense line and while moving metropolit to third line reduces the second line's impact, it allows for a simple easy and quick call-up formation that maximizes value to the parent club: Metropolit as a centre/winger, Strudwick and Park as wingers.
