The Dominator in Vancouver!!!

Vancouver made a big splash today in the UFA bidding wars of the BRHL2. They sigend 41 year old veteran Dominik Hasek 79 ov to a 2 year deal worth 5 mil a season.

"Well we sent our starter to be Mike Smith over to Atlanta in a deal that brought Drew Stafford and we knew we neede to fill that hole this offseason and Hasek was our number 1 choice and we felt we got him at an excellent price" Vancouver GM Mike Sambataro.

Vancouver is still heavily pursuing other UFA's and before all is said and done Vancouver is looking to add a Center 1st/2nd line and a RW 1st/2nd line.

Vancouvers cap this offseason was at 15 mil roughly and with this addition they are still below league minimum. The Canucks have plenty of more space to go after a big name or 2 before all is said and done. Stay Tuned....

Very very surprised that's all he went for. 1st steal of UFA...

I can't see how guys like recchi, straka, boucher ect..go for more than a top 10 rated goaltender.

i didnt bid on him because for some reason he ISN'T rated as one of the top-10 netminders in the BRHL2

his re-rate was lower than i expected, especially compared to all those 80+ ov goalies

Hasek is a bit lower because he only played 56 games so his DU goes down and with it his overall.. his other stats are comparable to a top 10.. it just means you need a good backup as he'll tire more easily similar to Huet.  I ran into this when Kipper first broke out in the BRHL1.  You can't just go off of overall.

ahh well there are 9 or 10 I believe 80 or above- and 3 sitting at 79. So he's tied for 10th or 11th.

Also if you know about goalie ratings, you know that a goalie with a rating of 79 could have a better rating than one with 80. You need to know where to look. Hasek's DU brings him down- he wont be a 78 game goalie but will be very good at full health. I'd take his 79 over many 80's.

Gee.

i don't just go on OV... look at the ratings

The three key ratings for goalies is often said to be SP, SK and PC. Hasek has excellent SK but awful PC. There are plenty of goalies with better PC, including Emery, Lehtonen, Vokoun, Nabokov, Miller and even 79 ov Fleury and my Norrena (76 ov).

An argument could be made that he's 8th based on combining certain individual ratings. But using a formula for goalies key rating categories he fell out of the top 10.

i did A LOT of number crunching.

still... he is ballpark, close enough to compete with the top-10 netminders on any given night

and a good signing at 5 mill per.
