In one swift move, LA pointed themselves in the direction they would like to head into next season. Already holding the younger, suckier Timonen, LA decided they needed to balance his not so goodness with some much betterness Timonen. Enter Kimmo Timonen. The elder brother has been acquired from Florida. Going back to Florida are defenseman Braydon Coburn, prospect Darren Helm, and LA's 2nd. Coming with Timonen are a couple of late round draft picks (5th and 6th round).
The management for the Kings were a little reluctant in moving the 2 prospects but Helm is projected, at this point, as a 3rd line checker type. Those players are common and although there is a chance he develops more of a scoring nack.. there is as good of a chance that he'll bomb completely. Coburn was once a highly touted defenseman but his development has been questioned recently as Atlanta has not brought him along properly. Time will tell if he'll get that chance in Philly in the future in the NHL.
Timonen gives LA that versatile top pairing defenseman who can play against a teams top pairing while quarterbacking the PP. The move leaves LA needing #2 and #3 defenseman to help solidify their defense.
