On Monday Aug 06th, BRHL2 has officially seen it's first big three-way deal of season two.
General Manager of the New York Rangers Joe Desmairis, will see a potential future top line come their way in Patrick O'Sullivan, Benoit Pouliot, and Joe Pavelski. O'sullivan didn't quite reach expectations in his rookie year of the NHL but finished the season off strong. He will be out to prove his 46 goal rookie compaign with Houston of the AHL was no fluke. Benoit Pouliot, former 4th overall pick in 2005, has the potential to be an elite player in the NHL with the rare combination of Size, Speed, and Skill. One of the biggest suprises of last year's NHL season was Joe Pavelski; Pavelski was drafted in the 37th round of the BRHL2 dispersal draft and is expected to play on the top 6 in SJ.
New General Manager Alex Tousignant of the Washington Capitals went out and got the young player he can build a franchise around- Paul Stastny. Stastny, who was 2nd in NHL Calder Trophy voting behind Evgeni Malkin, put up 78 points in 82 games. With very strong bloodlines and an impressive rookie season, Tousignant can be feel assured that he's aquired his top line C for many years.
The Buffalo Sabres are very excited to welcome Olli Jokinen to the lineup. Jokinen has put up roughly 90 points in his last two NHL season. Jokinen has also brough some leadership to the young Sabres organization. It is definately not out of the relm of possibility for Jokinen "OJ" to put up 100 points next season. Along with OJ, General managers Luke Wile and Aaron Uruski brought in Jonathan Filewich.
The trade breakdown looks like this:
To NYR: Patrick O'Sullivan (from buffalo) Benoit Pouliot (from buffalo) Joe Pavelski (from buffalo)
To Buffalo: Olli Jokinen (from Washington) Jon Filewich (from NYR)
To Washington: Paul Stastny (from NYR)
