Senators off season news

-Certainly the biggest news of the summer for Ottawa is the acquisition of Daniel Alfredsson and Vyacheslav Kozlov, but it certainly didn't come cheap as star prospect Luc Bourdon, Ottawa's 1st (Chris Stewart), Steve Bernier and Steve Eminger went the other way.

"We feel we are still in a position to win now and besides Eminger we don't feel we gave up anyone that would be able to help us for another 2-3 years," said GM Rob Botham, "so while we gave up a lot to get Kozlov and Alfie we feel they will put us in contention this year and gives us the scoring we didn't have last year."

-Ottawa will have a new back up this year as the Sens traded for 26yr old Curtis Sanford, going back to Florida was Josef Vasicek.

"We think Josef has a bright future in this league, but maybe needed a change of scenery, and being able to bring in someone like Sanford who understands his role right away but is still looking to improve made a lot of sense," added the GM.

-Ottawa and Boston have made an amazing 4 trades in just the last few days, 3 of trades involved Ottawa moving up into the second round where they drafted Daniel Rahimi.

"It's easy to work with Bryce, but even I'm amazed at the amount of trades we put together recently."

-There are rumours floating around that Scott Gomez could possibly be moved if the right package came along, but with Ottawa obviously trying to make another run at the cup he won't be moved for picks and prospects and will not come cheaply even if he has a 75OV rating.

-It is expected that both Keith Primeau and Alex Mogilny will announce their retirement, freeing up almost 8 million in cap space.

-Alexander Radulov is expected to sign his first BRHL contract sometime this summer, although it is expected that he will start the year on the farm unless a trade is made to free up a roster spot on the RW.
