thrashers draft recap

the teams g.m kirk shuck was thrilled with the way the draft played out for his team and allowing himself to continue to stock pile picks for upcoming drafts aswell. the team made 13 selections on draft night.

the team started the night by taking young gritty winger daniel carcillo with the 39th overall pick the team is very happy with the pick as carcillo is projected in the organization to hopefully turn into grinding winger with a nice scoring knack, (as shown by his production early in his career with a very dreadful yotes team)

with the teams next pick at number 58 the team selected kent huskins who is a solid two way d-man for the ducks and will get chance to play some decent pk and even strength minutes and is one injury away from top 3 d-men from getting a lil 2nd unit pp time, team is excited about huskins the same way they were after watching brett clark in the playoffs the season before and snagging him in the original brhl draft.

at number 82 the team was thrilled to land big young d-man mike weber, the team views him as a top 4 d-man with great defensive skills and a boomer shot. the team really likes the physical aspect of mikes game a feel his strong offensive showing in the  ohl playoffs is a sign of good things to come for this young d-man's career.

with the 88th pick the team selected Jonas Junland who the team was very impressed with his production while scoring scoring in the swedish J20 Superelit league where he had 6 goals 7 assists and a +8 rating in only 9 games. from their he was brought up to the
Linköpings HC and he really showed signs of promise in the playoffs adding 5 assists in 15 games, in his time at the wjc jonas showed great skating a open ice vision for team sweden.

with the 90th pick the team selected defenseman roman polack with 18 games already under his nhl belt the team likes his chance of having a solid nhl career as a stay at home d-man.

with the 91 pick  the team selected huge d-man Kirill Tulupov who at 6'3 220 pounds the team is excited about the huge potential this kid has we first made note of him in the 2006 wjc where he played for team russia and was +6 in their 8 games. we see alot in kirill as we did when anton volchenkov was that age said g.m kirk shuck

with number 98 the team selected Jonathan Matsumoto a kid who in his career in the ncaa averaged over a ppg and in his early ahl career was producing points aswell the team hopes for a boom or bust 2nd line winger or a 5th line nhl with this pick.

at number 113 the team made a bit of a reach on a prospect they see developing into a solid offensive nhl d-man with a nasty side to him.
shane sims has one of the hardest one timers ive ever seen on a power play his 10 goals and 20 assists show he has an offensive flair and his 137 PIM show he can handle himself physically aswell team sees a nice 3rd pairing d-man in shane.

with number 128 the thrashers took rodney pelley a good young kid who was getting 15 minutes a night in late march for the devils during their playoff push which shows the kid has some good defensive skill or else lou wouldnt have had him near the ice.

the teams next pick 141 was ryan daniels a goalie the team has heard alot about from another g.m in the league as being the ideal back-up for emery when gerbers contract is gone. in his first full season as a start daniels  ended up  a workhorse goalie playing  second most minutes in the OHL.  Daniels also had the best GAA in the ohl, posting a 2.94 average to go along with 38 wins, two shutouts and a .907 save percentage in amazing 60 games played. the team hopes he will be a long term answer to a backup goalie for our team.

with number 143 the team selected tony romano a small speedy winger who led the cornell big red rookies in scoring. is said to have great speed and vision but size is only concern. high risk reward pick hear for the team

with pick number 165 the team selected high risk reward forward nick dodge a guy who has averaged over a ppg over his college career the thrashers like his leadership ability as he took over as captain after sophmore year where he won team mvp at clarksson, in his first season as captain he was named a all-american.

with its final pick in the draft the thrashers selected
jesse martin a kid who played for a junior A team i went and watched a couple times and he was dominate all over the ice in the grove. and in his first year in the ushl where he had 56 points in 59 games as an 18 yr old their are good things to come for this kid who was born 7 days before the cut of day for the 07 draft so he was drafted in 08 very late and passed over.

All in all the team was thrilled with the way the draft went
39 danny carcillo - wing
58 kent huskins - d
82 mike weber - d
88 jonas junland- d
90 roman polak- d

I cant believe I read almost all of this. Nonetheless, I think you overrated almost all of them. You had a few good earlier picks but I dont see too many of your picks after round 3 ever really making it as far as you say they will. Maybe 1-2 will. Nonetheless, good draft if you can pull out 3 NHLers outta the 14 picks.
