The thrashers pulled of a deal that sets the team up before free agency and the draft begin. the team sent winger petr sykora to the detriot rew wings in return for evgeny nabokov, ana 5th 07, and a conditional pick in 08

I never said Sykora is better than Nabokov, but with Fleury inbetween the pipes and Nabokov set to become a free agent, the deal makes sense for me. I was looking for a top 6 forward or top 4 defenseman for Nabby, and Sykora was the one with the most upside of all the offers i've recieved.

And, before the peanut gallery chimes in about how i'm only trading for penguin players, lets take a look at the guys I dealt for so far:

Sykora: Will play all season on a line with Crosby, Malkin, or both.

Fleury: Best young goaltender in the NHL, will be a Vezna contender this season

Armstrong and Talbot: two of the best, young third liners in the league. log a ton of PK time, with generates huge DF ratings in the league. Both are also clutch scorers.

Orpik and Eaton: Both are cheap fixtures on the penguins blueline. Orpik will get more PK time with Scuderi and Melichar out of the picture and their replacements more offensive minded than defense minded, meaning a larger DF number, and Eaton will rebound after injury problems last season.

I don't just trade for penguins players, I trade for quality NHL players who happen to be penguins.

Come on Bryce.  Brooks Orpik breaks people's necks when he isn't even trying, why start a gang war?  Your throwing rocks at a man with a machine gun!

In related news, the Detroit Redwings have hired Ulf Sammuelsson as director of player development/assistant coach/public relations director.

No he didnt.  He just got lost in the glare from his two Stanley Cup Rings (Cam Neely never will have that problem).  He then proceded to level the Grandma on his next shift with a dirty hit.  The old hag had it coming.
