Nice Job Guys

All I've gotta say is that a couple of the GMs who have made fun of GMs who post a lot or have said "I have a life that doesn't revolve around hockey" and think talking hockey on a hockey message board is something that they dont want to take part in, have done a great job of killing the message board.

Since we are getting new GMs likely in the next week to two weeks we can use this thread to remind ourselves about this problem and to hopefully avoid it more next year.

I'd suggest resisting the temptation to call discussions "whining" or whatever other word you might choose and rather do nothing to hinder message board activity since the way it is right now is quite sad.

I think it's a fine line.

While more posts by a GM usually does mean that they're more active in the league (never a bad thing from a commish pov). Having quanity over quality isn't something that we should entertain.

If you have something to say, say it. However, remember to make it worthwhile. GMs with the most posts won't receive a prize. However, the league appreciates good and appropriate activity within a GMs post.

We understand that not everyone can post about every topic in every thread. We encourage activty, but we encourage quality over anything.

I agree completely, but I think more discipline should take place when GMs are hindering other GMs from adding their opinions and its ruined our message board activity. No one talks about anything for fear of being ridiculed.  There's little to no respect for GMs opinions in this league and thats shameful.

While I haven't seen issues of this, maybe I can see how you would feel this way. As far as I know, most GMs don't care about the # of posts made. They care about what is being said. If it's GMs trying to "pad their stats" maybe they'll say something.  I haven't gotten the impression that GMs will attack others for speaking their mind if it's justified. In fact, I see a lot more GMs expressing their opinions than in other leagues. I don't think it's something that is meant to be detremental, I'm sure. But then again, I don't specifically know the motive of the GMs.

I think that if GMs have a right to say something they are welcomed to, and any talking down to by other GMs will be dealt with by the commissioners.

I got no problem with GM's not posting, I understand what it is to be busy, sometimes I am very busy and sometimes I have nothing better to do than post on here. What I do have a problem with is someone telling me to shut up on the board or telling me that my posts are useless and the board is full of crap. If you don't want to read it then don't but some of us like hearing other people's opinions and comment on them.
I don't criticize anyone for not posting so don't criticize me for posting a lot.

Actually it was the intense bitch sessions early on that killed the messageboard activity.  The arguments were childish and stupid and many made me want to gouge my eyes out.

Topics that have value and merit will generate discussion.  But even those can denegrate into the insipid.

I don't ridicule those who have lots of posts, nor do I think it necessarily bad.  How many of the posts have value to them?  That is the ultimate question.

You suggest that discussions generate community.  This league isn't about community.  This league is about money and trying to beat the other guy.  If you want chatty, your other league is where you should go.

It shouldn't be chastised either about those who don't post because many of us have much better things to do than type...yaaaaaapppp. (Talking about insipid.)

Is it? Maybe you should check with Bryce and Eric before you tag your values as the values of the whole league.

Thanks,
Luke

It does seem like that, at times.

Well, if it was about community, turnover wouldn't have been as high and if it was about community and friendship, then as you have said previously the friendly discussion would be higher.

What Bryce and Eric would like the league to be and what it is are two different things.  They might WANT to have it be a friendly little league with a little cash on the line.  It isn't...well at least right now.

Bah. I disagree with that philosphy. Competition is one thing, but the competition doesnt take place on the message board, so for people to act like they are in an actual game of hockey, with their game faces on, it seems dumb to me.

Whats wrong with talking about common interests... yeesh.
