Chad Denny, offensive surge to the two-way talent

Sure is nice to follow the development of one's organization's prospects.

Two-way defenseman Chad Denny is built like a tank, 6'2 210, skates real well, has a great howitzer of a shot, very good vision and is solid defensively. The stock of the mid-2nd round pick is rising as he's developing nicely with excellent ppg scoring and great +/- and scouting praise and is expected by many to become a solid 2nd-unit NHL blueliner.

Now he can add offensive player honours to the mix:

Chad Denny and Ivan Vishnevskiy win QMJHL player
of the week awards

BOUCHERVILLE, Que (CP) - Defenceman Chad Denny of the Lewiston Maineiacs and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies blue-liner Ivan Vishnevskiy are the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's offensive and defensive players of the week.

Denny took offensive honours after recording three goals and six assists while posting a plus-2 rating in three games, all Lewiston wins. He had a hand in nine of the team's 17 goals.

He impressed at the Thrashers development camp last summer and has had praises from nearly everywhere, including the CHL Top Prospects game. You clearly aren't a regular at: http://www.chaddenny.com/  LOL

Terrible? Hits very well, plays the top penalty kill unit, has a 100 km/hr slapshot, tough as nails full-blooded Mi'kMaq with clear puck-handling skills once touted as a potential first rounder and who since drafted by Atlanta has improved.

He does make the occasional extra hit at the wrong time, drawing interference calls. Controlling his intensity is perhaps one area he needs to improve on.

But terrible?

Us Thrashers fans haven't thought so, he generating a buzz with his play at development camp and at the Traverse City tourney last September and since.

The 19 year old (soon 20) is expected to be offered a professional contract this summer and be in the AHL or ECHL next season.

"Terrible" you say? Noted and to be remembered.

Better than some of the overhyped, underdeveloped prospects floating out there.

Well, I think my teams record with prospects is pretty good. Take my advice with a grain of salt. Heres the report I gave on him after watching the Team Canada Summer Development camp in 2005 before the North Dakota WJHC tournament.

Chad Denny- Easilly the worst player at the camp, there was one time he made a huge blunder where he tried a pass out of the defence right up the middle only to have it picked off for a 2 on 1 which ignited Brent Sutter and the entire coaching staff into laughter atop a cherry picker on the side of the arena with no seating. I cant remember who told me to draft him where I took Plante but Im glad I didnt. He made 3-4 plays that actually just looked awful, he missed a pinch in to keep the puck in where he actually just like missed it, it was sliding flat on the ice and he just missed it and it led to a 2 on 1. Someone asked if he looked overweight and I would have to say yes, he has quite a chubby face and looked pretty thick. He might have a bit of potential but right now hes easilly a step behind everyone, slow at turning and doesnt have much skill when carrying the puck up, he had it stripped lots. You can find a player of his calibre at most outdoor rinks during the winter on most given nights.

Remember, this was after he was drafted and about 2 summers ago. So about 19 months ago. Take it for what its worth, unless hes improved greatly then I dont care to watch him.

Chad Denny was just named CHL player of the week.

He's a very tough 6'3 and has been in several fights, to the esteem of those who watch such thuggery. But he isn't a fighter per se, but brings that ability. His toughness, size and excellent slapshot all bode well for his future, and his passing, vision and character will help tremendously. He receives a lot of praise for his personality: very well liked by teammates and coaches.

He's presently listed behind Boris Valabik in terms of the Hockey's Future's ranking of readiness for the NHL, but don't let that be any indication of skill. Boris is a marginal player, third pairing and pk at best, whereas Chad has NHL regular written all over him. He is said to realistically be like an Andy Sutton, 25-pt-per-season shot-blocking big, durable d-man, though with powerplay potential and a bigger upside. We are not talking about the next Al MacInnis! to refer to another Cape Breton.

Clearly we won't convince you otherwise from your lovefest for a very marginal player so I guess Ill just give up. GL with the guy.

lovefest is not what it is... look elsewhere on these boards for RAVING

you'll "give up"? blanket statements of "terrible" with absolutely no detail and vague comments about how he looked chubby in his picture (as you haven't seen him play surely)...

profiling a CHL player of the week shouldn't turn into a "he's a superstar vs. he's crap" discussion, neither of which is justified.

let's have nice discussions without attitude

Lots of players have a good week in the CHL, it doesn't mean anything except that they had a good week. We'll see what Denny can do against NHLers on a consistant basis.

How did you get that Ive never seen him play out of my posts? lol, I just said that I saw him in two intrasquad games and a practice at the WJHC team canada summer camp in whistler last year, it was right before the Vancouver WJHC's. I previously said it was before the North Dakota ones, but I was mistaking. Whatever though.

Denny is playing well in the playoffs for lewiston. 2 goals 3 assists so far in 3 games.

Theres some other defenceman leading the whole league in scoring though, after 3 games he has 6 goals 6 assists for 12 points in just those 3 games! Twice hes scored the overtime game winner for his team. Some guy named Letang or something? Whens he up for draft?

I had to resurrect this thread. Too bad Jay isn't here anymore but re-reading this thread almost a full year later made me laugh.

Where's Denny now? Oh wait, hes in the ECHL with 2 goals 6 assists in 33 games so far. Hmmmm.... meanwhile Letang's getting 20 minute games on a playoff bound NHL team.

Sorry this thread was just funny to re-read, and I mean Aaron could still be wrong with all his claims in this thread but so far its looking pretty precise.
