Los Angeles completed a long rumoured move by moving out starter Antero Niitymaki to the New Jersey Devils. Its a bit of a questionable move by LA considering there is nobody ready to take the reigns in Hollywood but the management team felt they may be able to sign a stopgap starter for the next season and look to acquire a better starter than Niitymaki down the road. Niity hasn't exactly been blessed with wonderful numbers so far this year even behind a porous defense but numbers are numbers.
In return, LA continues to build a defense by adding top notch prospect Braydon Coburn. Coburn will join Trevor Daley and Cody Franson as additions to the defensive future of the Kings. Also coming to LA are Canadian world junior member Darren Helm who will help bolster the prospect depth and is having another solid season in the WHL and should be a solid 2-way player down the road.
LA also swapped their 5th round draft pick for Minnesota's 3rd in an effort to move up and grab a better prospect.
In the end the deal breaks down as follows:
To LA: Braydon Coburn, Darren Helm, Ty Conklin, Min 3rd To NJ: Antero Niitymaki, La 5th, Jan Platil
