Last night, Los Angeles hooked up with the Philadelphia Flyers on a large trade that saw winger Michael Ryder and defenseman Brooks Orpik pack their bags to Philadelphia along with a 3rd round draft pick (Van 3rd) to the Flyers.
In return, the Kings receive forward Alexei Ponikarovsky, defenseman Trevor Daley, and Tampa Bay's 1st round draft pick in the upcoming draft. Ponikarovsky should be more than capable of replacing Ryder's offense as he is on a better goal scoring pace than Ryder is this year. Daley should also see a better re-rate than Orpik going into next season with better offensive numbers and far more time on the PK. Of course, the 1st round draft pick is better than the 3rd round draft pick. The team, with an obvious surplus of draft picks, felt the need to improve on the 3rd round draft pick and did so with the first. The team now has 2 first round draft picks and an additional 5 in the 2nd round.
