Veto?

To Vancouver: Jarkko Immonen, Car 2007 Rnd 2
To Carolina: Dmitri Kalinin, Martin Straka

IMO this is beyond horrible, especially since Straka could have been tagged by Vancouver.

What gives?

And I think Vancouver wins the deal.

Immonen is a NYR prospect I've heard great things about. And a 2nd rounder is decent.

Kalinin is 6th in ice time among Sabres defensman, though he has success on the powerplay. Straka is 35 years old but his re-rate will be great with more than a point per game.

Vancouver could have used a TAG on him but then couldn't tag next season (might be in his plans) and then Straka couldn't be traded (would have to play the year in Van - which might be contrary to strategy).

If a team is making a cup run this season or next, then one thinks Carolina wins. But Kalinin is not going up much (actually is disappointing compared to expectations) and the trade is a winner for Vancouver in the medium and long term.

IMO.

It's not as if Vancouver was leading its division and trading away its top scorer. The Van-CAR deal makes sense given the respective organization's operating philosophies it seems to me.

Well I don't see why you would deal a pretty good defenseman (the Sabres spread out their ice time so Kalinin is still at almost 20 minutes a game, and top 3 in PK time) and your best forward next year for a so-so prospects and a middle of the pack 2nd.

He summed it up perfectly.....No use for straka even if i did tag him i would just lose him the following year.....With Tyutin,Babchuk,Volchenkov,Vlasic,Burns I have a quality future blue line....Kalinin was expendable.

And actually he can be traded for half the season, as he is a Lowe tag, half a season in which his value would have skyrocketed past Jarko Immonen value

Its still pretty bad. I mean he could get a lot more for straka even tho he is a UFA. ANd kalinin is worth a bit more than a late 2nd. I would say late 1st early 2nd.

Straka's value is more than immonen, just for the fact of what he could get.

No one wanted to give up anything for straka "He is a UFA" i heard from alot of people. Im not saying anyone posting in here said this but i heard it enough. UFA are not worth much. Kalinin for a mid to late 2nd round pick was fair. I doubt anyone in here would have gave up a 1st rounder for him. If you would then hit me up on ICQ because I have Anders Erikkson and he is way out performing Kalinin.

Yeah no one would give anything now but if you had read what people said above you could have tagged him, Straka gets a great rerate and after the half-season mark next year you get something worth much more than Immonen for him.

Straka is a 75 overall...he will prob rerate to 77-78 maybe.....Simple fact is next year his value would be relativly the same....who is going to want a UFA and give up someone better then an Immonem type

Why do we insist on questioning everything that goes on in this league, and the worse is it is always the same GMs.

You wonder why there is not more GMs on the board offering their bit?

Who in hell wants to?

The constant crying on here by these same GMs is sickening to the point where I cannot stand reading it.

Columbus: What in blue hell do you know about hockey? Give it a rest ! If you had any idea what the hell you were talking about you would be Gm-ing a real NHL team !

This is league for fun, yes there is money involved but it is a lowsy 50 dollars not a million we are putting on the line.

Your opinion is wanted, your whining is not. SHUT THE HELL UP AND GM YOUR OWN TEAM !

There are a few others on here and they know who they are. I do not care what you think of me. I am tired of this and this is the crap that will make me give it up next season period. When I see a Crosby for a Hal Gill deal  then I will cry until then let them play !

I ask anyone with the balls to step up and state their displeasure with this constant whining to step up to the plate a say so , so we can put an end to this.

Can we please stop with the VETO talk, as a BOD member I can tell you guys that a trade will only be vetoed if it totally dismantles or ruins a franchise (like the Bergeron deal earlier this seas).

In this case, although I agree that its a bad trade for VAN (imo) it is nowhere near being considered for a veto

Vancouver wont make the playoffs, why not do what the PENS and BLUES did in the NHL with Weight and Recchi...trade them away for a prospect and try to resign the player as a UFA. By no means I am saying that is what VAN will do, but is a plausible scenario.

So, this trade absolutly does NOT ruin the Van franchise. He adds a solid youngster and frees up 3M in CAP room which will allow him to do some serious shopping in the offseason.

I have indicated my displeasure to Bryce and Eric several of the points that you just made.....including the bolded.

Oh I'm in agreeance Rod, especially since I have REPEATEDLY stated, if you don't like a deal, email it to the commishs and we will discuss it with the BOD.

But the same group of GMs continually fail to follow this procedure, and then it causes **** like this to come up on the board.

I am getting sick and tired of going through this same song and dance. Yes we are all adults, but their is a thing called tact, and respect, if this same stuff continues, then we will have no choice but to remove the GM on the spot, without any compensation agreements like we've made with the other GMs who have left this season.

Don't like it? Follow the damn procedures, I have no problem with debates and constructive arguments, but you don't like a deal? Want it vetoed? email the commish office and it will be addressed. Otherwise, you run the risk of being gone. Eric, myself, and many other GMs have put in way to many hours to have to constantly address this situation. If you have an issue with following protocol, deal with it and follow it. This ends now. I will not lose quality GMs because some people insist on acting like 12 year olds. Follow protocol or you will be REMOVED!
